Technorati?

Posted in metablog with tags , , , , on March 9, 2008 by McN00b

I am vaguely aware that Technorati is like digg/etc, but about science blogs. What I didn’t know is that they have a whole page the essentially re-syndicates 356w. Weird. They point to us though, and we got one click from there, so I guess it’s cool. Other people referring to us include the web residence of the culturally hip, darw1n.net . And this spam robot site. I think the spam sight is trying to up it’s pagerank by linking us. I have yet to discover the occult meaning of the spam page.

Blog stats

I love watching the blog stats on the wordpress dashboard. Someone found this blog through google. We’re on the first page for:
three floyds alpha king clone

I had no idea what that was. Turns out it is a specific kind of beer discussed in the NYT article Fred posted about brewing/drinking. Mark discussed in the comments, and apparently it’s esoteric enough for us to be googleable.

Blog Taglines

Posted in metablog with tags , on January 27, 2008 by McN00b

So the blog tagline “interwebs” was intended to be a place holder. I planned to replace it with something more relevant and descriptive as blog content matured. But I couldn’t come up with anything that wasn’t just a vague generalization. I thought about doing something flippant, but one-liners tend to wear out with time. So I think I’ve settled on the answer: We’ll update the blog tagline with fresh one-liners whenever we feel like it. Think of it like the lines that appear at the bottom of the Futurama opening sequence. The old taglines will be stored in a in a page on the side-bar. Blog administators should be able to change the tagline using Options tab in the WordPress navigation page (authors won’t be able to change it, but are encouraged to post suggestions).

Now we have 3 gigs

Posted in metablog with tags , on January 26, 2008 by McN00b

I don’t know that it matters all that much, but we now have 3 gigs available for uploads to this blog. This seems very reasonable. If google can give me 2+GB for email, then should get at least that for this blog. I don’t expect that we’ll need it. But it’s nice to be able to post pictures.
